Each morning, very early, I see a group of women get out of the bus that stops near our home. All these women are domestic workers and they travel far to reach their place of work. After the bus drives off, they stand in the morning sun, join hands and pray. They pray for simple things, like keeping their children safe at school. If someone suffers a trauma, they collect money and give it to that person. When they are finished praying, there are hugs all round, and they head off for work. I believe that millions of similar, small acts of solidarity amongst women have pulled South Africa through terrible times.
