Past Our Peak • Lithograph • 57 x 76cm

“Past Our Peak” is a pyramid of rocks that refers to the cairns that are all over South Africa. Most passers-by have added to the pile, and this particular pile has grown so top- heavy that it is now beginning to crumble. This is analogous to our modern society that is top heavy and has so many imbalances that it is threatening to become unsustainable. The fires suggest change and the end of a process.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION:
A 7 run hand printed lithograph. Drawn by Karin Daymond using litho ink with the monotype transfer process,- where Karin worked on plexiglass with ink, which was then transferred directly with pressure (through the press) to a pre-sensitised aluminium lithographic printing plate. This plate was exposed to light and then developed. (the ink on the plate acts as a resist in the developing). 5 different plates (one for each colour) were drawn by Karin, and the edition printed from these plates. Hand printed on 250 gsm Arches white paper.
